Silver Pine Cone - Olde German Treasures Collection

Silver Pine Cone.  4-3/4" glass ornament.  New in 2006.  Inge-Glas No. 1-308-06. Mouth-blown in an antique mould, hand-painted. From Inge-Glas' Olde German Treasures collection.

"The collection "Olde German Treasures" is reminiscent of old German tradition and handicraft. Around 1900, it was the style in society to decorate Christmas trees with glass ornaments using only the colors silver and white. As a tribute to this, all ornaments of this collection are made of real antique, lovingly restored old glass-blowing moulds. They are mouth-blown and use pure sterling silver to reflect the delicate, hand decorated filigree pattern. Each ornament has an "Olde German Treasures" hang tag." - Inge Glas

The pine cone represents motherhood

"The Pine cone...  The first German figural ornaments were modeled from God's most amazing creations found in nature.  Therefore, pine cones were among those first ornament shapes created by German glassblowers.  Due to their abundance in nature, pine cones have come to represent motherhood and fruitfulness.  It's tradition to give pine cones as gifts to represent good wishes for a happy, healthy family.  People also like to keep pine cones in their own homes for good luck." Inge-Glas
