Present in large numbers in Marseille – notably in Les Goudes, on the Old Port or in the famous Vallon des Auffes – this gull symbolizes the sea, the wind and the typical port life of the region.

A cousin of the Atlantic gull, the Gabian is found all along the Mediterranean coast, particularly in the Camargue and around the Marseille islands.
