Sheep Lying Down - Nativity Set

This sheep is produced by ring turning, a technique practiced only in the Erzgebirge and nowhere else in the world. Their thick woolly fleeces are made from fine wood shavings.

The Nativity figures are a very special design from Wendt and Kühn's grand design legacy returns to the collection in October 2021 - the nativity scene. Grete Wendt's design of 1910/11, before she even founded Wendt and Kühn, was way ahead of its time. Its straight lines and minimalist style are akin to the language of form we would have expected from the artists of the Bauhaus in 1919. Simple yet with a richness of detail the figures give this extraordinary group magnificent character and history.

Additional figures will be added over the years until the scene is complete.
