Poet - Felibré - Felibren
The word "Felibré" (a Provençal word meaning pupil or follower) was created in 1854 near Avignon by Fredric Mistral and six other Provençal writers. They founded the "Felibrige," (a word derived from felibré - French pronunciation: [felibʁiʒ] ) a cultural association to defend and promote occitan languages, literature, and people. In a broader sense, the word "Felibrige" pertains to all Langue d'oc-speaking regions, including Catalonia.
The Santons Felibré is not a specific individual, but rather represents the poets / writers of Provence. He always has a book with him, loves to read, enjoys the craft of writing, of words, and to meet people. He finds his inspiration in the countryside and tells the stories of everyday, local people. He is well dressed, using a fob watch, donning a cape (with a hood), and a distinguished hat, as he strolls through the land.
