Baker - Boulanger

The baker, a happy soul, with his linen pants, spotless apron, and cotton cap, carries a gift of a basket of the bread he has baked on his shoulder as he walks from the village to the stable.

Breads special to Provence include:
    pain Calendal - a round country loaf marked with a cross and baked only at Christmas
    la banette - a small French loaf
    la fougasse - a round loaf crisscrossed on the top
    pain fendu - an oval loaf divided down the middle
