Comtadine (from the Comte d'Avignon) with Fruit - Comtadine aux fruits - Coumtadino

A native of Comtat Venaissin (an area near Avignon), the Comtadine with fruit is distinugished by her costume, especially the two sides of her starched headdress which reach down to her shoulders. She carries a basket of fruit and a winter melon (cultivated in the Vaucluse - a "department" county in Provence) that is picked in autumn and keeps until Christmas.
