Woman with a Foot Warmer - Femme à la chaufferette - Fremo eme l'escaufeto
The Woman with a Foot Warmer is one of the characters cherished for their wisdom (known as the "old ones of the crib") - they symbolize commonsense and experience. As a well-to-do, middle class woman she carries her copper foot warmer (upon which one rests one's feet - the cinders inside maintaining the heat) and a red umbrella (a symbol of respectability in Provence). She wears "la coqueto" - the white headdress which fastens under her chin. Her shawl, called the chimney sweep ("le ramoneur"), is double flounced and is of a color (dark green) and a cloth that conceal any ash smudges that may come her way.
