St. Francis of Assisi - Saint-Francois d'Assisé
Saint Francis of Assisi is considered to be the Father of the Nativity Scene. Saint Francis of Assisi is credited with creating the first nativity scene in 1223 - a "living" nativity - in Greccio, Italy, in honor of the worship of Christ, having been inspired by his recent visit to the Holy Land where he had visited Jesus's birthplace.
Draped in a traditional homespun monk's robe, Saint Francis is the patron saint of Santons craftsmen (Santonniers) and a meaningful addition to one's creche.
